New Delhi, April 19 (HS) : India's Veer Chotrani and Anahat Singh have made a remarkable performance to secure their spots in the finals of the World Squash Championship qualifying event (Asia), being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Veer Chotrani defeated the eighth-seeded Chee Him Wong from Hong Kong, China, in the semifinals with a score of 3-1 (11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 11-4). Now, he will face either top-seeded Mohammad Asim Khan from Pakistan or third-seeded Amishe Raj Chandran from Malaysia in the final.
The talented 17-year-old Anahat Singh also continued her excellent form by defeating the eighth-seeded Helen Tang from Hong Kong, China, in straight games 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-6) in the semifinals. In the final, Anahat will compete against Toby Tsai from Hong Kong, China, who defeated India's Akanksha Salunkhe 3-1 (11-3, 12-10, 10-12, 11-8) in the second semifinal.
The winners of this tournament will qualify for the World Squash Championship scheduled to take place in Chicago (USA) from May 9 to 17. Indian players reaching the finals has generated tremendous excitement among squash fans in the country.
