Sukma, April 18 (HS): In Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, 11 Maoists, including two women, surrendered to the police on Friday. Five of them had a total reward of 8.5 lakh rupees announced, with 2 lakh each for three males and one female, plus 50,000 for another male. They were active in the Badesatti Gram Panchayat.
Key officials present included SP Kiran Chavhan, ASP Umesh Prasad Gupta, and others. The surrender occurred under the Naxal Surrender, Victim Relief and Rehabilitation Policy-2025, part of the Maoist Ilwad Panchayat Scheme. This policy aims to provide significant development incentives to Maoist-free areas.
The Sukma district force and local police have effectively encouraged Maoists to surrender, aided by the government's ongoing initiatives. SP Chavhan noted that external Maoist discrimination and violence against local tribes prompted these individuals to leave the organization and reintegrate into society.
Each surrendered Maoist is set to receive 50,000 rupees and clothing through the rehabilitation policy, along with additional support services, aiming to assist them in their transition to mainstream life.
