Imphal, 17 April (HS): A massive operation is being conducted by security forces in Manipur. During these operations, many illegal weapons were recovered and militants were arrested.
A large quantity of weapons were seized by security forces during a search operation in Saidan village (Churachandpur police station) of Churachandpur district. These include a .303 rifle (with magazine), a 9 mm pistol, a modified carbine machine gun (with magazine), a country-made single barrel gun, a modified 81 mm mortar (long range), two country-made pumpies, a tear smoke shell (short) and a tear smoke shell (long).
Under another operation, an outfit of KCP (Lalumba) group was arrested from Laihrobam Leirak Trisangam located in Kontha Ahllup Makha Leikai of Hengang police station area of Imphal East district. He has been identified as Wahengbam Ramanand Singh (50), a resident of Kontha Ahlup Mayai Leikai.
A 9 mm pistol (with magazine), six 9 mm live cartridges, two .32 pistols (with magazine), eight .32 live cartridges and a mobile phone were recovered from him.
This action of the security forces is being considered an important step towards restoring peace and law and order in the area.
