Nagon (Assam), 19 April (HS): The incident of an undertrial prisoner, lodged in Nagon's special jail, mysteriously escaping from the hospital bed has created a stir. According to the information, accused Raju Ali, arrested under the NDPS Act, was produced in the court by Nagon Sadar Police a few days ago and sent to special jail.

Police said on Saturday that Raju Ali, arrested in the case of illegal smuggling of drugs, was admitted to Nagon Medical College Hospital for treatment on April 14 after his health suddenly deteriorated. It was told that he was suffering from pneumonia and was undergoing treatment. He is a resident of Juria.

Although some improvement was also seen in his condition, the news of his sudden escape from the hospital bed created a stir among the hospital administration and security personnel. The question is being raised that how did the accused escape despite the police security present in the hospital premises.

This incident has also raised serious questions on the role of the jail administration. Was this a well-planned escape?

It is noteworthy that some time ago another accused had escaped from the same jail by jumping over the wall, on which the state Home Secretary himself visited the jail for investigation on 12 February.

Now once again the incident of a prisoner escaping from the hospital at an interval of a few days has raised questions on the security arrangements of the jail management. Nagon Police is conducting a search operation for the absconding accused, however, till the time of filing the report, he could not be caught.
