Chennai, 19 April (H.S.): Durai Vaiko, son of MDMK founder Vaiko, has resigned from his position as the party's principal secretary, citing persistent internal disputes that have plagued the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).
His decision underscores growing tensions within the party. 2 Durai Vaiko attributed his resignation to ongoing conflicts, specifically highlighting an individual within the party who, for the past four years, has been making accusations against the party leadership, damaging Vaiko's reputation.
He also accused this individual of consistently providing damaging information to the media. In response, the MDMK has announced that Durai Vaiko’s resignation will be addressed during the upcoming Administrative Council meeting, with party leaders already engaged in discussions regarding the situation.
Despite stepping down from his principal secretary role, Durai Vaiko has affirmed his commitment to remaining a primary worker of the MDMK. He also stated he would attend the upcoming Administrative council meeting, but not attend future meetings that make important decisions.
He explained that his resignation was to prevent damage to the party, and to his father Vaiko. This development follows Vaiko's recent warning to party district units against adopting resolutions ahead of the scheduled Administrative Council meeting, indicating existing internal tensions.
The MDMK is a constituent of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, making these internal disputes a matter of significant political interest within the state.
