New Delhi/Mumbai, April 1 (HS): President Droupadi Murmu, attended the closing ceremony celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai on April 1, 2025. She emphasized that the RBI is central to India's growth journey, having witnessed the country's evolution from poverty before Independence to its current status as a leading global economy. The RBI, she noted, plays a crucial role in financial governance, influencing the everyday financial dealings of citizens despite minimal direct interaction, with its name appearing on currency notes symbolizing trust. This trust has been built through the RBI's consistent focus on price stability, growth, and financial stability, adapting to the country's evolving needs. The institution's agility in addressing challenges, such as those arising from economic liberalization in the 1990s and the Covid-19 pandemic, demonstrates its resilience.

The President highlighted the RBI's pivotal contribution to making India a leader in digital payments, ensuring seamless, secure transactions through innovations like the UPI, fostering financial inclusion and a dynamic fintech ecosystem. As India approaches the centenary of its Independence, she called for a financial ecosystem that is innovative, adaptive, and accessible as part of the Viksit Bharat 2047 mission. Acknowledging the complexities ahead, she expressed confidence that the RBI would remain a cornerstone of stability, innovation, and inclusivity, guiding India toward prosperity and global leadership while ensuring a robust banking system and maintaining trust in the financial environment.
