Bengaluru, April 2 (HS): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has set a new milestone in terms of its popularity on Instagram. The team has crossed the 18 million followers mark, making it the most-followed Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise on this platform. RCB has created a deep connection with fans through its unique and engaging content, turning social media into a strong medium for brand growth and commercial engagement. This information was shared in a statement released by the franchise.
Until November 2023, RCB was trailing behind Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI). However, the team's effective social media strategy and the tremendous loyalty of fans have propelled it ahead in this race. RCB now boasts 18.1 million followers, while CSK has 17.8 million and MI has 16.3 million. RCB reached the 17 million mark on March 23 and quickly climbed to 18 million in just 10 days.
A significant factor behind RCB's rapidly growing popularity on social media is their recent historic victory against Chennai Super Kings. The team defeated CSK at their home ground after 17 years, generating immense enthusiasm among fans. Following this victory, the team received tremendous support on social media, leading to a surge in follower numbers.
RCB's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rajesh Menon stated, We want to be a part of our fans' lives, stay connected with them every day, and provide relevant and interesting content. The success of our social media strategy is attributed to our authenticity and the showcasing of players' personal stories. Social media has become a means to build deeper and stronger relationships with our fans.
This season, RCB is not only performing brilliantly on social media but also on the field. The team is currently at the top of the points table, having won both of the matches played so far. In the first match, they defeated the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and in the second match, they defeated five-time champions CSK at their own home ground.
RCB's next match will be against Gujarat Titans at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if the team can maintain its lead both on the field and on social media.
