Madhya Pradesh bans Liquor Sales

Bhopal, 1 April (H.S.): The state of Madhya Pradesh has announced a total ban on the sale and purchase of liquor in 19 religious places starting from April 1, 2025. This decision was made by the BJP-led government in line with their new excise policy, which aims to control and eliminate alcohol consumption in these areas.

The cities where the ban will be implemented include Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, Amarkantak, Salkanpur, Barman Kalan, Linga, Barman Khurd, Kundalpur, and Bandakpur. This policy will result in the closure of nearly 47 liquor shops and no new licenses for wine outlets will be issued or permitted to operate in these areas.

The decision has received mixed reactions from the public with some praising the move and others expressing concerns about its implementation and effectiveness. Ramayani Kuti Aashram Mahant Ram Hriday Das welcomed the ban and hoped for proper implementation by the government. Padma Shri BK Jain, an ophthalmologist and director of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya in Chitrakoot also supported the decision and urged for cooperation from the public to make it successful.
