Kathmandu, March 29 (HS): A journalist named Suresh Rajak was killed during violent protests in Kathmandu on Friday, which demanded the restoration of the monarchy. In response to the attacks on Rajak and a few media houses, the Nepal Journalists' Federation organized a protest on Saturday.
Under the leadership of the Nepal Journalists' Federation, a protest was held this morning at Maitighar. During the protest, they expressed their sorrow over the unfortunate death of journalist Rajak and paid tribute to him. They also demanded a high-level investigation to uncover the truth of the incident. Journalists have called for strict punishment for those responsible for the incident. Suresh Rajak was a cameraman for Avenues Television and was burned inside a building in the Tenkun area of Kathmandu.
Deepak Acharya, the acting president of the Nepal Journalists' Federation, stated that the federation will work to secure justice for the late journalist Rajak. He emphasized the need for all journalists to unite for the protection of journalists' lives and property. Former federation president Taranath Dahal, Dharmendra Jha, Shiv Gaunle, and other journalists were present at the protest.
Protesters had pelted stones at the offices of Annapurna Media House and Kantipur Television. The crowd also attempted to set fire to both media houses, but a major disaster was averted due to the timely arrival of security forces.
