New Delhi, March 28 (H.S.): The Punjab government has informed the Supreme Court that farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was on an indefinite hunger strike regarding various demands of farmers, has ended his fast.
During the hearing, the Punjab government informed the bench headed by Justice Surya Kant that the highway has been cleared. Farmers have been removed from the Shambhu border. Dallewal ended his hunger strike by drinking water. As a leader of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, Dallewal started his fast unto death on November 26 regarding the demands of the farmers.
The Supreme Court expressed satisfaction over the clearing of the Shambhu border. In light of this information provided by the Punjab government, the contempt proceedings initiated against the state’s Chief Secretary and DGP have been terminated. A new petition was filed in the court requesting contempt action, but the court refused to hear it. The court stated that they had already instructed to clear the highway, which cannot be blocked, as it is the lifeline of the country.
