Delhi, 28 March (H.S.): The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has called on Muslims nationwide to wear black armbands on Jumatul Vida (the last Friday of Ramzan) in protest of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.

In a letter shared on X, AIMPLB celebrated recent protests in Delhi and Patna that have prompted responses from the BJP’s allied parties, while announcing a major protest in Vijayawada on March 29, 2025. The board denounced the Waqf Amendment Bill as a sinister conspiracy aimed at seizing Muslim religious and charitable institutions, warning that the bill, if passed, would jeopardize mosques, madrasas, and other community assets.

AIMPLB urged Muslims to oppose the bill by wearing black armbands as a peaceful protest on Jumatul Vida. They emphasized the responsibility of every Muslim to express grief and dissent peacefully while attending mosque services. In contrast, BJP MP Jagadambika Pal defended the amendments, claiming they are for the greater good and do not infringe upon religious freedoms. Pal criticized AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi for allegedly misleading the public regarding the government's intentions with respect to the Waqf Board.
