Kathmandu, March 27 (HS): The police have arrested 11 Indian nationals in Kathmandu on charges of online betting during the ongoing IPL games in India. So far, an online betting disclosure of ₹200 crore has been revealed from here.

The spokesperson of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), SP Sudhir Raj Shahi, informed media personnel on Thursday that late Wednesday night, information regarding live betting for the IPL games was received. Based on this, a raid was conducted late at night in a rented house in the Budhanilkantha area of Kathmandu, leading to the arrest of 11 Indians. All those arrested are residents of Rajasthan and are aged between 19 to 28 years.

Among those arrested are Sunny Meena (24), Mohit Verma (25), Piyush Bhardwaj (26), Harkeash Dadia (25), Nishant Bhardwaj (22), Akash Verma (23), Ankit Kumar Saini (19), Sanju Shukla (23), Ram Singh Jat (28), Lokesh Kumar (19), and Vikas Kumar (19). During this operation, the CIB seized 34 mobile phones, five laptops, four registers used for accounting, 14 checkbooks from various banks in India, 27 ATMs of Indian banks, and 40 Indian SIM cards from various companies.

The spokesperson stated that apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Insta Chat, WeChat, and Signal are being used for betting. According to the CIB, the mastermind is operating from a third country outside Nepal and India, directing all of these individuals. None of those arrested has met or recognized this individual to date.
