Delhi, 23 March (H.S.): The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Delhi East Commissionerate launched a successful GST Registration Campaign on 21st-22nd March 2025, aimed at increasing registration and compliance under the Goods and Services Tax regime. The initiative targeted unregistered manufacturers and traders in the CGST Delhi East jurisdiction, highlighting the importance of GST registration and legal compliance. Helpdesks were established at Hallan Chowk, Old Seelampur, Gole Baithak, Jacket Market of Jaffrabad, and Subhash Road, Gandhi Nagar, New Seelampur to assist with queries and the registration process.
The campaign received a positive response from the local business community, many of whom were unregistered and reliant on cash transactions, detrimental to the economy. Over 2,000 queries were addressed by GST officers, resulting in over 100 registration applications generated on the spot. Additionally, 200 students from reputable universities served as GST Ambassadors, promoting the campaign and assisting traders with information about GST benefits. These ambassadors conducted door-to-door surveys using a standard script and questionnaires, aiding GST officers in following up on potential registrants.
The initiative proved successful in enhancing awareness and compliance among traders.
The campaign involved distributing 7,500 pamphlets in Hindi and Urdu about GST Registration, alongside public announcement systems, skits, street plays, and mohalla campaigns organized by the National School of Drama (NSD) team. These efforts aimed to raise awareness about the importance of tax payment to the government and the repercussions of non-payment. This initiative is crucial for increasing GST registration among unorganised sectors, thus enhancing compliance and contributing to India's economic growth and stability. The CGST Delhi East Commissionerate, under the guidance of Pawan Kumar and Paras Shankhla, executed the campaign with supervision from various GST officials. The campaign concluded with a ceremony led by Mahesh Kumar Rustogi, Director General of DGTS, who addressed student volunteers, trade associations, and civic society organizations. Rustogi emphasized the need for a formalised economy to achieve the target of a $5 trillion economy and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives beyond Delhi East CGST to other regions and nationwide. This campaign represents a significant step toward fostering transparency, accountability, and economic development in India.
