The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways stated in a release that Singapore and India have signed an LOI to collaborate on maritime digitization and decarbonization. The LOI was signed by Teo Eng Dih, the CEO of Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority, and R. Lakshmanan, Joint Secretary of India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). The event was also attended by Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Transport and Environment, Dr. Amy Khor, and India's Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.

According to a joint statement from Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority and the Ministry of Port and Shipping, the Singapore-India GDSC will enhance cooperation between the two countries and help accelerate the development, adoption of zero or near-zero GHG emissions technologies, and digital solutions. Under the Letter of Intent, both parties will collaborate on maritime digitization and carbon-free projects, which includes identifying relevant stakeholders who can contribute to this effort. They will also work towards formalizing the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Singapore-India GDSC.

On this occasion, Central Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that his visit to Singapore with a high-level delegation from the maritime sector will strengthen long-term relations. The comprehensive strategic partnership will deepen and broaden cooperation between the two countries. Sonowal is participating in the Maritime Week, which is scheduled to be held in Singapore from March 24 to 28, 2025, with an expected participation of 20,000 representatives and exhibitors from around the world. It is noteworthy that Sarbananda Sonowal is on a three-day visit to Singapore.
