NEW DELHI, 18 March (H.S.) :
Transport Minister Pankaj Singh informed that over 1,000
new buses will be introduced on the streets of Delhi from April 1. He said that
more than 2,000 cluster buses and approximately 3,000 older DTC buses will be
gradually taken off the roads in the near future. He emphasized that to
minimize any disruption to the public, efforts will be made to deploy as many
new buses as possible.
The transport minister said that the city is set to receive
between 1,500 and 2,000 new buses, all of which will be electric. He emphasized
that only electric buses will operate in Delhi, and the existing CNG buses will
be phased out once their operational period concludes. He expressed confidence
that the revenue for the DTC would rise, leading to improved transportation
services for the public.
He criticized the previous administration for its
mismanagement, which he claimed resulted in losses for the Delhi Transport
Corporation (DTC). Furthermore, he assured that the bus service would be free
from corruption and confirmed the continuation of the complimentary bus service
for women.
