Chennai, 17 March (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu police detained on Monday senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan as she staged a protest against the alleged TASMAC scam. Soundararajan was taken into custody from her residence amid heavy police deployment.
Earlier, she defended the BJP's protest, citing Enforcement Directorate (ED) findings alleging Rs 1,000 crore irregularities in TASMAC.
The BJP has been escalating its attacks on the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government over alleged corruption. On Friday, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai accused state minister V Senthil Balaji of being the kingpin behind multiple scams, including TASMAC.
I have my sources. The TASMAC scam is over ₹1,000 crore. Senthil Balaji is involved in every single scam. He is the kingpin. The Supreme Court has questioned whether he has the moral right to continue as a minister, Annamalai said.
The controversy over TASMAC corruption is expected to further intensify political clashes between the BJP and DMK ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
