New Delhi, 4 February (HS): The central government has allotted a plot adjacent to former President Pranab Mukherjee's memorial for the construction of a memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. According to sources, the government is waiting for the response of the former Prime Minister's family in this regard. The government has also allocated Rs 25 lakh for the memorial.
The Union Urban Housing Ministry had earlier informed Manmohan Singh's family about this decision and requested them to form a trust so that the land could be allotted. In January, government officials visited the National Memorial. Singh's family was also invited for this but no one from their side arrived.
The National Memorial, located on the banks of the Yamuna river, is fixed as a memorial for the late leaders who were President, Vice President and Prime Minister in the past. At present, there are memorials of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PV Narasimha Rao, Chandrashekhar and IK Gujral. The remaining two plots have been fixed for Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee.
