Mahakumbh
Nagar, 19 Feb (HS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comment
referring to the Mahakumbh as the Mrityu Kumbh prompted severe
protests from the saint community. Religious leaders condemned her comments as
an affront to Sanatan Dharma and the Mahakumbh.
The
saints have unanimously requested that Mamata Banerjee recant her statements
and give a public apology. They stressed that the Mahakumbh is more than just
an event; it is the very essence of Sanatan culture, with profound spiritual
and cultural importance for millions of followers. Shri Mahant Jamuna Puri,
National Secretary of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani, severely condemned
Banerjee's words, claiming that they are very improper for a leader in a
position of responsibility.
“Prayagraj
Mahakumbh is a ‘Amrit Parva’ whose magnificence has been observed by the globe.
Mamata Banerjee should not use insulting language during such a religious
ceremony,” he remarked.
Acharya
Mahamandaleshwar Swami Arun Giri of Panch Dashnam Aavahan Akhara also
criticized the speech, claiming that West Bengal is becoming a death zone for
Sanatanis. “Thousands of Hindus have been slain, and during elections, lakhs
are forced to escape. Mamata Banerjee should focus on her own state rather than
Uttar Pradesh,” he opined. He also
thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for giving Mahakumbh global attention
and making it a historical event. Mahant Rajendra Das, President of Nirmohi Ani
Akhara, described Banerjee's words as an attack on Sanatan Dharma.
“Prayagraj
Mahakumbh has taken Sanatan Dharma to new heights. Mamata Banerjee cannot
appreciate its significance since she has consistently disregarded Sanatan
ideals and customs,” he stated. He said that by making such utterances, she is
following in the footsteps of Arvind Kejriwal, and her fate will be same.
Mahamandaleshwar Ishwar Das Maharaj attacked Banerjee's remarks, claiming they
represent her anti-Sanatan sentiments. She has always opposed Sanatan Dharma
and wants to make Bengal into another Bangladesh, he claimed.
Mahant
Raju Das of the Ayodhya Hanuman Garhi temple criticized Mamata's comments and
demanded her to apologize. Similarly, Swami Jitendranand Saraswati, National
General Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti, slammed the comment, stating
that Mahakumbh is a symbol of Sanatan culture and faith, and that the saint
community strongly condemns Mamata Banerjee's words.
Swami
Adhokshjanand Dev Tirth of Govardhan Math Puri advised that Mamata Banerjee go
to Prayagraj Mahakumbh to observe its spiritual magnificence. More than 50
crore Sanatanis have had supernatural encounters during this 'Amrit Kumbh.' It
is strongly condemned to refer to it as a 'Kumbh of Death'. Politicians should
avoid from making religious statements, he added.
