Imphal, 19 February (HS): Manipur Police and security forces have arrested five outfits and a supporter of banned rebel groups in various operations.
Police said on Wednesday that security forces arrested Romeo Laishram (50), a supporter of Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Workers Group) [KCP (PWG)] from his house at Yurembam Awang Lekai under Patsoi police station in Imphal West district. A 7.65 mm pistol, 15 cartridges, a pistol holster and Aadhar card were recovered from him.
Besides, Naorem Premkanta Singh (43), an outfit of KCP (PWG) was arrested from Irum Mapal area of Kakching district, who was involved in extortion from the general public.
On the other hand, two outfits of PREPAK (PRO) rebel groups were also arrested. The first one was arrested from Mahindra Showroom, Okshongbung, Tiddim Road, Bishnupur district, whose name is Thokchom Sanathoi Singh alias Chongthoiba (24). Mobile phone and Aadhar card were recovered from him. The second one was arrested from Uripok Khumanthem Lekai, Imphal West, whose name is Salam Sitoljit Singh alias Seventy alias Sevenkumar (36). He was also involved in extortion and mobile phone was recovered from him.
Similarly, Waikhom Ibungo Meitei alias Mangal (26), an active member of RPF/PLA, was arrested from Hatta Golapatti, Parompat police station area of Imphal East district. He was involved in extortion from government officials, schools and colleges. A two-wheeler and two mobile phones were seized from him.
Security agencies are interrogating all the accused and further investigation is underway.
