BILASPUR (HP), 6 December (H.S.): The Bilaspur Fisheries Department has intensified its vigilance against unlawful fishing in Govind Sagar lake, launching a focused two-day campaign to curb illegal activities and the use of banned nets. As part of the operation, officials registered six cases, underscoring the department’s firm commitment to protecting the lake’s aquatic ecosystem.
During the inspection, authorities detected two cases involving the illegal transportation of nets and four instances of fishing without a valid license. The team seized 20 kilograms of unauthorized fish valued at around ₹2,000 and collected an on-the-spot fine of ₹3,500 from offenders. Officials emphasized that such action is essential to prevent depletion of fish resources and to deter violators.
Assistant Director of Fisheries, Pankaj Thakur, informed that the campaign covered several vulnerable areas across two days. On Wednesday, inspections were carried out in Bajaura, Naharal, Jablu, and Bagchhal in the Sir Khad region. On Thursday, the drive continued in Dobad, Lathiani, Mandli, and Dohak, ensuring widespread monitoring across the lake’s surrounding zones.
The department has reiterated that regular enforcement drives will remain a priority to safeguard Govind Sagar lake from illegal exploitation. Fishermen have been urged to follow licensing norms and avoid banned equipment, as strict action will continue against any violation to ensure the sustainable conservation of the region’s aquatic life.
