Delhi Govt Sets Up Task Force to Establish Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority

NEW DELHI, Dec 6 (HS): The Delhi government has constituted a 21-member task force to facilitate the creation of a Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority aimed at addressing the mobility requirements of the capital’s rapidly growing population, officials said on Saturday.

The task force, to be chaired by the Chief Secretary, has been mandated to finalise the framework for the proposed Delhi Urban Metropolitan Transport Authority (DUMTA). It will outline the institutional structure, geographical jurisdiction and composition of the DUMTA Board, they added.

According to the official notification, the rise in population, increasing pollution levels, mounting pressure on road infrastructure and the need for a more organised public transport network in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have necessitated the establishment of a unified transport authority.

The government stated that the proposed DUMTA will bring various transport-related agencies under a single coordinating body, enabling integrated planning and improving efficiency in transport management across the capital.
