31 Dec (HS): The main accused in the slitting of the throat of a teenage girl in
Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, was injured in a police encounter. He has
been arrested. He was shot in his right leg. Police have admitted him to a
Central Health Center (CHC) for treatment. A pistol was also recovered from the
accused. Additional Superintendent of Police Akhand Pratap Singh said on
Wednesday that on Tuesday, the Kurebhar police station received information
that a girl had been murdered in a village. Police immediately arrived at the
scene. Based on the family's complaint, a case was immediately registered
against two named accused under relevant sections. Police teams were
immediately deployed to search for the accused. One accused was immediately
arrested, while the main accused remained at large.
Last
night, an informant reported that the main accused, Vineet (20), son of Jagdish
Dhanjai, a resident of Kudran Galibaha village, Kudebhar police station, was
heading towards Dhanjai Mod, Kudebhar police station. Based on this
information, a cordon was laid. He immediately opened fire on the police,
prompting the police to return fire in self-defense, resulting in the accused
being shot in the leg. He has been arrested and brought to the Primary Health
Center in Kurebhar for first aid. Necessary legal action is being taken.
A
13-year-old girl lived with her grandfather in a village a few kilometers from
the police station. On Tuesday, while she was alone at home, Vijay, a drunken
young man from the village, entered her house. He physically assaulted her.
When she resisted, he slit her throat with a sharp weapon and fled. The
teenager wrote the accused's name on a piece of paper lying nearby. She was
taken to the Central Health Center in an injured state, where she died during
treatment. Her body arrived home late last night after a post-mortem. Police
arrested the accused's mother last night.
