Kochi, 31 Dec (H.S.):As thousands of revellers are expected to throng Fort Kochi to welcome the New Year, the city police have put in place elaborate security and traffic arrangements to ensure smooth and safe celebrations during the Cochin Carnival. Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya has announced that the use of drones without prior permission has been strictly prohibited in and around the carnival venues.

The main venue for the Cochin Carnival will be the Parade Ground at Fort Kochi, with additional celebrations planned at the Veli Ground. To manage the massive crowd anticipated for the festivities, the police have deployed a strong security force comprising 13 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 28 Inspectors, and over 120 police personnel.

As part of traffic management measures, parking will be completely prohibited in and around the Parade Ground and Veli Ground areas. From 2 p.m. onwards on Wednesday, vehicles will not be allowed to enter these zones. The Ro-Ro ferry service from Vypin to Fort Kochi will operate only until 4 p.m. for vehicles and up to 7 p.m. for passengers. After that, the service will function solely for return trips from Fort Kochi.

To facilitate smooth movement, special bus services have been arranged from Fort Kochi and Vypin to various parts of the city. Buses from Cochin College will operate till 3 a.m. to help revellers return safely after the celebrations.

Authorities have also ensured adequate public amenities, including bio-toilets and medical facilities, at key locations. Emergency response teams will remain on standby throughout the night.

Police officials have urged the public to cooperate with security personnel, follow traffic regulations, and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure a peaceful and incident-free New Year celebration in Kochi.
