New Delhi, 30 December (HS): The National Frequency Allocation Plan 2025 (NFAP-2025), governing radio communication and spectrum management in the country, came into effect on Tuesday. The policy aims to regulate the allocation and management of radio-frequency spectrum and align it with global standards.
The Ministry of Communications said the reforms will ensure that India’s spectrum management framework remains responsive, high-capacity and in line with international norms. It will support present and future digital innovations and help strengthen the associated ecosystem in the country.
According to the Department of Telecommunications, NFAP-2025 allocates frequency ranges from 8.3 kilohertz to 3000 gigahertz for various radio communication services, introducing several key changes. The 6425–7125 megahertz band has been identified for International Mobile Telecommunications, enabling the availability of mid-band spectrum for 5G, 5G Advanced and future 6G services.
The plan also allocates the Q and V bands for next-generation satellite services, which will be crucial for high-capacity geostationary orbit satellites and large non-geostationary satellite constellations. To ensure seamless broadband connectivity during air and sea travel, additional spectrum provisions have been made for in-flight and maritime connectivity.
NFAP-2025 further supports emerging technologies such as vehicle-to-everything communication, low earth orbit and medium earth orbit satellite services, and expanded broadband solutions, the ministry said.
