
New Delhi, 30 December (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a pre-Budget consultation meeting with eminent economists, sectoral experts and subject specialists at NITI Aayog ahead of the Union Budget 2026–27.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer BVR Subrahmanyam were also present at the meeting.
According to sources, economists, sector experts and representatives from micro, small and medium enterprises shared their views during the interaction. Discussions focused on India’s growth prospects, fiscal management and structural reforms required to ensure long-term economic growth ahead of the upcoming Budget.
The meeting also deliberated on the current economic situation, global challenges and measures to strengthen domestic demand. Sources said the consultations are aimed at incorporating suggestions from a wide range of stakeholders to formulate an inclusive and balanced Budget.
