Chennai, 3 December (H.S.) : The hill station of Ooty is preparing to launch a new, dedicated pet park developed at a cost of ₹40 lakhs inside the Ooty Arboretum. The initiative is part of an effort to increase foot traffic at the botanical garden, which has seen a decline in recent times.

The park's design is innovative, utilizing the space that flanks the central stormwater drain channel, thereby ensuring the preservation of existing trees and walking paths. The area has also been fully fenced to minimize disruption to regular visitors.

Officials have confirmed that the new facility will include various amenities, such as designated water stations, trash cans, and specialized play equipment for dogs. It will also be open to professional dog trainers who wish to conduct sessions on the premises.

Clear guidelines for visitors will be displayed on signboards to ensure compliance with park regulations. While the Arboretum currently charges an entry fee of ₹10, the fee structure for the new pet park is still under review, with authorities considering options for monthly or annual passes.

All collected fees will be dedicated to the park's upkeep. The district administration collaborated with the SPCA to develop the park, incorporating several of their suggestions. A sub-committee comprising .
