Chennai, 29 December (H.S.) : Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson CR Kesavan on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of scoring a shocking self-goal by exposing the fiscal failures of its ally, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the media, Kesavan stated that the Congress has inadvertently highlighted what he termed a disastrous failure model through recent data shared by its own office bearers regarding the state's mounting debt.
The BJP leader's remarks followed social media posts by Praveen Chakravarty, Chairman of the All India Professionals' Congress, who pointed out that Tamil Nadu now holds the highest outstanding debt among all Indian states.
Chakravarty highlighted that the state's interest burden is the third highest in the country and that its debt to GDP ratio remains significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels.
Kesavan asserted that these revelations from within the alliance prove that the DMK's governance has been insensitive and marked by severe misrule over the past four years.
Challenging the opposition leadership, Kesavan demanded that Rahul Gandhi clarify whether he agrees with his party's assessment that the DMK government has failed the people of Tamil Nadu.
He further called upon Chief Minister MK Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to respond to the criticisms raised by their primary ally.
The BJP spokesperson claimed that the alliance is currently imploding and described the state administration as a directionless vehicle without a leader at the helm.
Kesavan emphasized that this internal contradiction within the United Progressive Alliance shows a lack of cohesion ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
He noted that while the two parties intend to contest the polls together, the Congress's own data has branded the DMK's financial management as alarming.
The spokesperson concluded by stating that the current debt situation represents a dark chapter in the state's history, for which the ruling dispensation must be held accountable.
