Sonitpur (Assam), 28 December (HS): The district administration on Sunday launched a major eviction drive at Baghmari area under Bihali, aiming to free a total of 265 bighas of government land from illegal encroachment.
As part of the operation, bulldozers were pressed into service to demolish unauthorised structures standing on the encroached land. The drive was carried out under tight security arrangements, with the presence of senior administrative officials and police personnel to ensure law and order.
Officials said the eviction was conducted following due legal procedures and notices issued earlier to the encroachers. The reclaimed land is expected to be utilised for public and developmental purposes in the larger interest of the area.
The administration reiterated its resolve to continue such eviction drives in future as part of the government’s ongoing effort to protect public land and curb illegal occupation.---------
