Tej Pratap Yadav Seeks Security Amid Death Threats from Expelled JJD Spokesperson

New Delhi, 27 December (H.S.): Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, filed a police complaint on Saturday alleging that his party's expelled national spokesperson, Santosh Renu Yadav, has issued death threats against him via social media platforms.

The former Bihar minister, who lost the Mahua assembly seat in the recent elections, also wrote to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary requesting enhanced security, citing an immediate threat to his life.

In the FIR registered at Patna's Sachivalay police station on December 21 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for extortion, cheating, criminal intimidation, and breach of peace, Yadav accused Renu of initially acting against party ideology after his appointment as spokesperson.

Yadav further alleged that Renu extorted money—such as ₹1.45 lakh from a Bihar Military Police havaldar—by falsely promising jobs and favors to party workers and others, prompting JJD's central disciplinary committee to expel him on December 14 along with his role in the affiliated Yaduvanshi Sena.

Following the expulsion, Yadav claimed Renu escalated to posting abusive videos and live streams on Facebook and YouTube, explicitly threatening his life and using objectionable language, which he described as unacceptable under any circumstances.

Station House Officer Gautam Kumar confirmed the FIR and ongoing investigation, while Choudhary acknowledged receiving the letter, stating the matter is under examination.

Renu denied the allegations in counter social media posts, calling them politically motivated and claiming he was targeted for questioning Yadav's decisions, including an incident involving a party worker's beating and his condolences for a BJP leader's brother.

He too sought protection from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Choudhary, accusing Yadav and brother Tejashwi of suppressing young Yadav community leaders.

This episode unfolds months after Lalu Prasad expelled Tej Pratap from RJD on May 25 for six years over irresponsible behavior linked to a deleted Facebook post about a relationship, which he later attributed to hacking; Lalu publicly disowned him amid family rift claims. JJD's poor electoral showing, with no wins among 43 candidates including Yadav, adds to the internal turmoil.
