New Delhi, 27 December (H.S.): The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in the national capital on Saturday witnessed dramatic scenes as a group of party workers from Karnataka staged a protest outside the Congress headquarters.

The demonstrators demanded that a Dalit leader be appointed as the next Chief Minister of the state.Carrying banners and placards, nearly a dozen protestors gathered at the party office, calling for Karnataka’s current Home Minister, Dr. G. Parameshwara, to be entrusted with the Chief Minister’s responsibility.

The posters prominently read, “We want a Dalit Chief Minister for Karnataka.”The protest briefly attracted attention before security officials escorted the demonstrators away from the premises. Party sources described the gathering as “peaceful but spontaneous,” reflecting an undercurrent of sentiment among certain sections of the Karnataka Congress cadre.

Meanwhile, inside the Congress headquarters, the CWC meeting was chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, with senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party; Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha; party general secretary K.C. Venugopal; and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in attendance.

The high-level meeting focused on key political and organizational issues ahead of the upcoming national elections. While the CWC deliberated strategy, the protest outside underscored growing pressure within the Karnataka unit for greater representation of Dalit leaders in top positions.
