27 Dec (HS): Late Friday night, police in the Gajner police station area of
Kanpur Rural district in Uttar Pradesh arrested the accused of raping a minor
after a shootout. An illegal pistol was recovered from the accused. Akbarpur
Circle Officer Sanjay Singh said on Saturday that on December 24, a man in the
Gajner police station area reported that Deshraj of his village had raped his
minor daughter, leaving her pregnant. Police registered a case based on the
victim's complaint and began searching for the accused.
The
police received information late Friday night that the wanted accused, Deshraj,
who had raped a minor, was hiding in a rugged area in the police station area.
The police reached the rugged area in search of the accused. Sensing police
activity, the accused, Deshraj, began running away. Finding himself surrounded,
he opened fire on the police. In self-defense, the police fired at the accused.
After the encounter, the accused, Deshraj, was arrested.
The
Circle Officer stated that the accused was shot in the leg in the police's
retaliatory firing and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Police
recovered a .315-bore pistol, two empty cartridges, and one live cartridge from
the accused. Cases have already been registered against the accused under serious
sections of the POCSO Act and the BNS. Further action is being taken against
the accused.
