Suspected Feiry Services in Brahmaputra

Guwahati, 26 December (HS): Ferry services operating between Guwahati and North Guwahati were temporarily suspended on Friday following the formation of extremely dense fog over the Brahmaputra River. The Inland Water Transport Department issued the emergency directive citing safety concerns.

Officials said that heavy fog drastically reduced visibility on the river to near zero, raising the risk of potential accidents. As a precautionary measure, ferry operations were halted until conditions improved.

The sudden suspension caused widespread inconvenience, particularly for hundreds of commuters who had set out early for their workplaces. Government and private sector employees, along with students, were left stranded at ferry ghats, leading to chaos and confusion.

According to the department, ferry services will resume only after the fog clears and visibility returns to safe levels. In the meantime, commuters are being forced to take the longer route via the Saraighat Bridge to reach their destinations.---------------
