Chennai, 25 December (H.S.) : The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that the iconic Victoria Public Hall, which was recently renovated, will be open for public viewing starting from December 26. Chief Minister MK Stalin formally inaugurated the restored heritage structure on Monday.

The restoration project was carried out at a total cost of thirty two point sixty two crore rupees over a period of two years. Officials emphasized that the extensive work was completed while carefully preserving the original architectural integrity of the 1887 building, which was originally built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

The civic body has introduced a mandatory online reservation system for visitors to manage the crowd. Entry is free of charge, but guests must book their slots through the official website of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The hall will remain open daily from eight thirty am to six thirty pm. To ensure a comfortable experience, the authorities have limited the capacity to sixty people per ninety minute interval.

The renovated space now functions as a cultural hub, featuring a museum and an art gallery. The ground floor displays historical records of the building’s architects and prominent leaders who have graced the venue, alongside exhibits tracing the evolution of cinema, theatre, and the Justice Party.

According to corporation officials, the theatre arts centre within the hall is also available for bookings for cultural and general arts events. However, every application will undergo a review process to ensure the nature of the event aligns with the heritage site’s purpose.

Outside the main building, the corporation has added several attractions, including a tram and archaeological displays. Visitors can also enjoy various Old Chennai themed selfie spots featuring vintage items like a rickshaw and a boat on the Buckingham Canal, making it a comprehensive historical experience for the public.
