
Chennai, 25 December (H.S.) : A special POCSO court in Tiruvallur has sentenced thirty five year old Kale Biswakarma, a migrant worker from Assam, to double life imprisonment for the abduction and rape of an eight year old girl near Arambakkam.
Special Judge C Uma Maheshwari delivered the verdict on Wednesday, convicting the accused under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of one point forty five lakh rupees and ordered an interim compensation of three lakh rupees for the rehabilitation of the survivor.
The crime occurred on July twelve, when the child was returning from school. The accused stalked and abducted her near the railway station before assaulting her in a nearby mango grove. The incident sparked massive public outrage after CCTV footage of the suspect emerged.
The Tiruvallur police conducted a high tech investigation, deploying over sixty officers and utilizing artificial intelligence to reconstruct the suspect's face from blurred visuals. The Tamil Nadu government had also announced a reward of five lakh rupees for information leading to his arrest.
Biswakarma was eventually apprehended at Sullurupeta railway station on July twenty five. Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Shukla stated that a dedicated trial monitoring team was formed to ensure the proceedings moved swiftly without delays.
He noted that the trial was completed in nearly three months due to meticulous coordination. Inspector General of Police Asra Garg commented that the use of digital tools and forensic analysis played a vital role in securing the conviction within five months of the offense, providing much needed justice to the victim's family.
