Coochbehar, 25 December (H.S.): Two members of the same family were allegedly killed and four others seriously injured in a long-standing dispute between neighbors in Mathabhanga area on Thursday morning. The incident took place in the Balasi Alokachar area of Hazra Haat-1 Gram Panchayat in Mathabhanga.

According to local sources, there was a long-standing feud between the Sarkar and Sikdar families. On Christmas morning, an argument broke out between members of the two families over some issue, which quickly escalated into a violent clash.

Allegedly, some members of the Sikdar family suddenly attacked the Sarkar family with weapons. In the indiscriminate attack, 22-year-old Yadav Sarkar and 45-year-old Manav Sarkar were seriously injured and collapsed on the spot. Four other people were also injured in the attack. Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and immediately took all the injured to the hospital. There, doctors declared Yadav Sarkar and Manav Sarkar dead. The other four injured are undergoing treatment.

On information, Mathabhanga police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The police are investigating the real cause of the dispute. A search is underway for the absconding accused. The police are maintaining vigilance in the area due to the prevailing tension.
