
Chennai, 25 December (H.S.) : The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has announced that it will operate its train services according to the Sunday timetable today, December 25, on account of the Christmas festival.
As per the official notification, metro trains will be operational from five am to eleven pm to accommodate commuters during the national holiday. The authorities have revised the frequency of trains to manage the holiday rush while maintaining a scheduled pattern typical of weekends.
According to the statement released by the authorities, the train frequency will vary throughout the day. During the peak hours, which have been identified as twelve pm to eight pm for the holiday, metro trains will run at an interval of seven minutes.
In the earlier part of the day, from five am to twelve pm, and later in the evening from eight pm to ten pm, the trains will be available every ten minutes. For the final hour of operations between ten pm and eleven pm, the frequency will be further reduced to fifteen minutes.
Officials from the Chennai Metro Rail Limited stated that these adjustments are made periodically during major festivals to ensure efficient service while balancing the expected passenger load. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys according to these specific timings.
In addition to the metro changes, the Southern Railway has also implemented a Sunday pattern for suburban train services across the Chennai division for the day.
This holiday schedule aims to provide consistent connectivity for residents traveling across the city for Christmas celebrations and other social gatherings.
