Melbourne, 24 December (H.S.): England announced its playing XI on Wednesday for the fourth Test (Boxing Day Test) of the Ashes 2025-26 series against Australia, set to unfold at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The team introduced two key changes: fast bowler Gus Atkinson replaces the injured Jofra Archer, while Jacob Bethel steps in for Ollie Pope.

The England Cricket Board stated, Fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour due to a left-side strain.Archer had emerged as England's most impactful bowler in the first three Tests, claiming 9 wickets across 80 overs. His absence delivers a significant blow, particularly as the team trails 0-3 in the series after already losing Mark Wood, shifting focus to salvaging prestige in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, batsman Ollie Pope pays the price for poor form; batting at number three across six innings this tour, his highest score stood at 46 in the Perth Test.

England's playing XI for the fourth Test reads: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethel, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue.

With eyes on honor rather than series revival, England confronts an Australia intent on a clean sweep in the Boxing Day showdown.
