Sonitpur (Assam), 24 December (HS): An elderly man was killed on the spot after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Dhekiajuli area of Sonitpur district on Wednesday. According to the Forest Department, wild elephants entered the Bolshri area of Dhekiajuli in search of food, during which the fatal incident occurred.

The deceased has been identified as Shashimohan Mandal (80). On receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and sent the body to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

Following the incident, local residents expressed anger against the Forest Department, alleging that despite repeated appeals to take measures to control the wild elephant movement, no effective steps were taken, which ultimately led to the loss of the elderly man’s life. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.--------
