New Delhi, 24 December (H.S.): The Delhi High Court reserved its judgment on Wednesday on a petition filed by Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, seeking their share in the alleged ₹30,000 crore property of their uncle, actor Sanjay Kapoor. Justice Jyoti Singh's bench heard detailed arguments from all sides before reserving the verdict.
Sanjay Kapoor's third wife, Priya Kapoor, vehemently opposed the petition, asserting that her late husband's will contains nothing suspicious and adheres to the Kapoor family's longstanding tradition of property transfer via testament.
Represented by counsel Rajeev Nayar, Priya argued that the Kapoor clan has consistently used wills for asset distribution, citing even her father-in-law's precedent as a healthy familial practice. Nayar dismissed suspicions over witnesses, noting they are employees who remain in service, refuting claims of monetary inducement.
The petitioners' counsel, Mahesh Jethmalani, countered that the purported will is fraudulent, pointing to anomalous use of feminine pronouns—she and her—four times within the document, which Sanjay Kapoor, a male, could not have employed.
Jethmalani highlighted the absence of any explanation for such pronouns and Priya's silence on who drafted the will. He further flagged multiple errors, including incorrect addresses for Sanjay's daughter and repeated misspellings of his son's name, underscoring glaring inconsistencies that Sanjay would never commit.
Jethmalani emphasized Sanjay's close bond with Samaira and Kiaan Raj, with whom he shared affectionate relations, often hosting them during vacations and assuring them of a secure future and financial stability. The petition, filed by Karisma as guardian of her two children, accuses Priya of tampering with the will to seize control of Sanjay's entire estate, deliberately excluding her children from any inheritance rights.
Dated March 21, 2025, the contested will bequeaths Sanjay's full property to Priya. The plea reveals Priya concealed it for seven weeks post-Sanjay's death on June 12, 2025, during a polo match in Windsor, Britain, disclosing it only on July 30 amid a family meeting.
Samaira and Kiaan Raj demand declaration as first-class heirs entitled to a fifth share of Sanjay's assets. They seek an interim order freezing his personal properties until final disposal, portraying Priya's actions as a calculated bid to monopolize the vast fortune.
