Hailakandi (Assam), 24 December (HS): One person was killed in a road accident that occurred at the district headquarters of Hailakandi on Wednesday. According to sources, the incident involved an escort vehicle moving with the official vehicle of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi.

The victim, identified as Biswajit Das, sustained critical injuries after being hit by the escort vehicle. Upon receiving information, an additional police team rushed to the spot and initially shifted the injured to SK Roy Civil Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

However, Biswajit Das succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Silchar. In connection with the incident, the driver of the escort vehicle, Ali Hussain, has been taken into custody.

Police have taken possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation into the incident is underway.---------
