The Annual Sports Day for the academic session 2025–26 of Army Public School Barrackpore was celebrated with great enthusiasm, discipline and martial spirit on Tuesday at the Dhyan Chand Stadium, (RCTC Ground). Organised on the theme “Inclusive India – We Are the Champs”, the event conveyed a powerful message that sports is not merely about competition but also about unity, courage and collective strength.
The stadium resonated with colours, slogans and applause as students from Classes 3 to 8 participated with remarkable zeal. The event was graced by eminent heptathlete, two-time Asian Games silver medalist and Arjuna Awardee, Madam Soma Biswas as the Chief Guest. Brig. Ashish Hooda, SM, Commander 122 Infantry Brigade and Chairman of the school, was also present, lending added prestige to the occasion.
The Sports Day commenced with a grand opening ceremony featuring the ceremonial lighting of the torch, flag hoisting and an inaugural address. The release of pigeons and balloons by the Chief Guest symbolised peace, inclusivity and harmony. A spacious temporary gallery was arranged for parents and guests to comfortably witness the celebrations.
Madam Swagata Bhowmick, Coordinator of Classes 7 and 8, highlighted the school’s achievements and urged students to imbibe the values of perseverance, fair play and leadership. This was followed by a well-coordinated and disciplined march past by the house teams. The oath administered by the Sub-Senior Head Boy infused the atmosphere with enthusiasm and commitment, while the school’s NCC troop impressed the audience with a confident and skillful display.
Students showcased outstanding performances in various track and field events, including 75 m, 80 m, 100 m and 200 m races, along with a thrilling mixed relay competition. Despite intense rivalry, sportsmanship remained the defining spirit throughout the day. Fun races such as the Balance Race, Obstacle Race, Biscuit Race, Spoon and Marble Race and Sack Race added excitement, especially for younger participants. Cultural presentations, including a welcome song and games-beat fusion, further enhanced the vibrancy of the programme.
A major highlight of the day was the 200m sprint, which witnessed the creation of a new school record. The relay race concluded with a gripping finish, as Manekshaw House clinched victory through exceptional teamwork. Aesthetic dance performances incorporating Yoga and Karate added grace and grandeur to the celebrations.
The event culminated with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners were awarded trophies and medals, and all participants received certificates. The Chief Guest appreciated the high level of discipline displayed by the students and lauded the seamless organisation of the event.
In the Junior category, Manekshaw House was adjudged Best House in Co-Curricular Activities, while Roychowdhury House secured the Overall House Trophy. In the Sub-Senior category, Roychowdhury House emerged as Best House in CCA, and Manekshaw House claimed the Overall House title based on cumulative points earned across athletic and team events.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Madam Remy Das, Coordinator of Class 6, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, parents and organisers, emphasising that the event strengthened community bonds and reinforced the importance of an active lifestyle. The programme concluded on a solemn note with the rendition of the National Anthem.
The Annual Sports Day at Army Public School Barrackpore stood as a proud celebration of valour, discipline and true sportsmanship, leaving behind lasting memories and renewed motivation among students to strive for excellence both on and off the field.
