New Delhi, 23 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a profound Sanskrit Subhashitam under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, underscoring the eternal dependence on farmers for sustenance despite material abundance.
The verse reads: “सुवर्ण-रौप्य-माणिक्य-वसनैरपि पूरिताः। तथापि प्रार्थयन्त्येव कृषकान् भक्ततृष्णया।।” It poignantly conveys that even those adorned with gold, silver, rubies, and fine garments remain compelled to seek farmers' bounty to quench their hunger with devotion.
In a post on X accompanied by an illustrative image, Modi reiterated the shloka, amplifying its message on Chaudhary Charan Singh's birth anniversary—also observed as Farmers' Day—celebrating the agrarian backbone of India's economy and culture.
This subhashitam, rooted in ancient Indian wisdom, highlights farmers' supremacy over worldly riches, as food security trumps all luxuries, resonating with Modi's ongoing emphasis on rural empowerment and agricultural self-reliance.
