Karbi Anglong (Assam), 23 December (HS):

Assam Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday said that several sensitive issues related to the existence of the Karbi community are involved in the ongoing Kheroni situation and assured that the state government is handling tribal concerns, including land rights, with utmost sensitivity.

The minister made the remarks while holding discussions with protesters at Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong district. He said that a tripartite meeting involving the Assam government would be held later this month to address the issues raised by the protesters.

Dr Pegu further stated that responding positively to the government’s appeal, the protesters have temporarily suspended their hunger strike. He reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the matter through dialogue while safeguarding the interests and rights of tribal communities.-----------
