Women's
Commission Chairperson Babita Chauhan held a press conference at the PWD Guest
House. During the conference, she defended Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on
the hijab issue. She stated that when women wear hijabs, they are difficult to
identify. She argued that concealing one's face when visiting an office or
public place is not appropriate, as these are places where one must demonstrate
identity. She cited the example of requiring a passport, driver's license, or
voter ID card, and therefore, there should be no objection to this. She accused
the opposition of unnecessarily raising the issue, saying they have no other
issues. The opposition should understand that where identification is required,
there is no need for a veil.
