Kolkata, 22 December (H.S.): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya, in a post shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, levelled serious allegations against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her government regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

In his post, Amit Malviya stated that it was due to the efforts of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee that Hindu-majority West Bengal became a part of India, where Hindu Bengalis could live without fear, preserving their culture, faith, and identity. He claimed that Hindu Bengalis, who had suffered religious persecution across the border for decades, were forced to seek refuge in India.

Amit Malviya said that the Citizenship Amendment Act, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was designed to provide a dignified life and legal protection to such refugees and does not harm the rights of any existing citizen of the country.

He alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly opposed the CAA and incited clerics and radical elements to protest against it.

According to Malviya, during this period, violence erupted in the state, roads and national highways were blocked, public property was damaged, and Hindus were targeted.

The BJP leader also alleged that the state government intimidated vulnerable communities like the Matua, Namashudra, and Rajbanshi, preventing them from applying under the CAA by telling them that doing so would lead to harassment, confiscation of documents, and denial of government benefits.

Amit Malviya claimed that by discrediting the CAA, Mamata Banerjee has left the Hindus of Bengal vulnerable. He said that if not for the politics of appeasement, it is possible that Dipu Chandra Das from Bangladesh would be alive today and living a life of dignity in West Bengal.

Concluding his post, Amit Malviya said that history will remember these decisions and appealed to the public to hold Mamata Banerjee accountable and remove her from power in the 2026 assembly elections.
