New Delhi/Guwahati, 21 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday morning embarked on a distinctive river cruise along the Brahmaputra, where he interacted with students during the 'Pariksha Pe Charcha' programme on the second day of his Assam visit.

Unique Venue and Participant Details

Aboard the three-deck cruise ship 'M V Charaidew 2', PM Modi engaged with 25 meritorious students from various schools across Assam for approximately 45 minutes. Positioned on the upper deck, the Prime Minister conversed directly with the young participants, offering guidance ahead of examinations in this novel floating setting.

The event underscores a creative approach to educational outreach, blending scenic navigation with motivational discourse.

Strategic Access and Infrastructure Highlight

PM Modi arrived at the recently inaugurated Guwahati Gateway Terminal of the Inland Water Transport (IWT), a facility opened by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and boarded via a floating bridge.

This terminal enhances inland waterway connectivity in the region, symbolizing infrastructural progress. The cruise departed from this modern hub, integrating the programme seamlessly into Assam's evolving transport landscape.

Robust Security and Service Disruptions

Security measures intensified across the Brahmaputra waterfront, with River Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel conducting patrols since early morning.

Ferry services between Guwahati and North Guwahati stood suspended from Saturday, December 20, until noon on Sunday, December 21, to facilitate these precautions amid the Prime Minister's high-profile itinerary.

Private boats and vessels also halted operations temporarily, ensuring a secure environment for the event.
