New Delhi, 21 December (H.S.): The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday dismissed misinformation surrounding Saturday's peaceful protest outside the Bangladesh High Commission here, asserting no security breach occurred while expressing grave concern over attacks on minorities and the brutal murder of Deepu Chandra Das in Bangladesh's Mymensingh.
Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to media queries, noting misleading coverage by some Bangladeshi media outlets. India reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding foreign missions under the Vienna Convention, clarifying that 20-25 youths had gathered to protest Das's savage killing and demand minority protection in Bangladesh.
Jaiswal emphasized that protesters never attempted to breach barriers or create security threats; on-site police dispersed the group within minutes. Visual evidence of the entire incident remains publicly available.India stated it closely monitors the evolving situation in Bangladesh, maintaining contact with Bangladeshi authorities to convey strong concerns over minority attacks and urging prosecution of Das's killers.
Concerns over minority safety have persisted since Muhammad Yunus's government formation, with recent violence targeting communities following Osman Hadi's death, culminating in Das's lynching by a mob in Mymensingh.
