Cooch Behar, 21 December (H.S.): A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was abducted by miscreants while trying to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The incident occurred early Saturday morning at the Mekhliganj Indo-Bangladesh border in Cooch Behar district. The abducted jawan was later handed over to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) by the Bangladeshi miscreants.
According to BSF sources, the abducted jawan has been identified as Ved Prakash. He is posted at the Arjun Camp of the 174th Battalion of the BSF in Cooch Behar. During his duty on Saturday night, the jawans noticed a herd of cattle illegally entering Indian territory from a deserted stretch of the border.
While chasing the cattle, Bed Prakash moved ahead of the other jawans and became separated due to the dense fog. BSF sources said that around 4:45 AM on the 21st December, Bangladeshi miscreants abducted the jawan and returned to Bangladesh with the cattle. The miscreants later handed the jawan over to the BGB.
On information, Indian authorities contacted their Bangladeshi counterparts. The process for the safe return of the jawan has been initiated. Bangladesh has confirmed that the jawan is safe and healthy and is currently at Angarpota Border Outpost.
According to sources, similar incidents have occurred in the past. Following this incident, the forces deployed along the border have been instructed to be more vigilant.
