Lucknow,
20 Dec (HS): On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a
red alert for dense to extremely dense fog and chilly day conditions in
numerous parts of Uttar Pradesh, warning that the unfavorable weather is
expected to continue for the next two days. According to a news statement
released by the Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, severe fog conditions have
been reported in wide areas of the state over the last 24 hours, with
visibility dropping dramatically in numerous districts. Agra airport,
Prayagraj, Kanpur (airport), Bareilly, Jhansi, and numerous more areas saw very
intense fog with visibility below 50 metres. According to the IMD, cold day
conditions were observed in numerous districts, notably in western, central,
and eastern Uttar Pradesh, as cold northerly winds, surface inversion, and the
effect of an anticyclone persisted across the region.
The
prevailing weather pattern was also influenced by a western disturbance over
north India and a decrease of the tropical westerly jet stream, according to
the report. The meteorological service cautioned that thick to very dense fog
is expected to linger in numerous districts until December 22, while cold day
to severe cold day conditions may persist in isolated pockets until December
24. According to IMD standards, a 'cold day' is proclaimed for any location
where the temperature falls below 10 degrees Celsius when the highest temperature
fluctuation remains 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius below normal, while a 'severe
cold day' is announced when the deviation surpasses 6.5 degrees Celsius.
According
to the IMD, districts like as Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi,
Bareilly, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Rae Bareli,
Sitapur, Hardoi, Etawah, Mainpuri, Aligarh, and Mathura are anticipated to be
hit by dense fog and chilly day weather. The meteorological service has
encouraged people to take measures, particularly in the early morning hours,
and asked authorities to stay vigilant since limited visibility might affect
road, rail, and aviation travel. The IMD stated that it will continue to
closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
