Hooghly, 20 December (H.S.): An Anganwadi center at Kanaipur Colony in Hooghly district of West Bengal, allegedly used expired and insect-infested lentils in the food prepared for children. The incident sparked widespread outrage among parents and local residents,.

As per information, on Saturday morning, preparations were underway to cook khichdi (a rice and lentil dish) for the children at Kanaipur Colony Anganwadi center, as was the routine. However, some parents noticed insects and dust in the lentils and they raised concerns. Allegedly, the same lentils had been used to prepare khichdi for the children on Thursday as well.

This triggered a massive protest in the area. A large number of local residents and parents gathered in front of the Anganwadi center to demonstrate. Seeing the situation escalate, the cooking of food with the contaminated lentils was immediately stopped. Later, lentils were procured from another nearby Anganwadi center, and cooking resumed.

Local residents have questioned why young children were being fed expired and insect-infested lentils and who is responsible for this. The role of the concerned authorities is also being questioned in this matter.

The angry parents have demanded an immediate investigation into the entire incident and strict action against those responsible. They have also demanded regular quality checks of food at Anganwadi centers to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
